You hear the terms "green" and "sustainable" tossed around together with the word "business" a lot these days, but you may wonder: What is it? What does it have to do with me? My business?
A lot, it turns out.
According to the 2007 BBMG Conscious Consumer Report, statistically weighted to reflect US Census data, nearly nine in ten Americans say the words “conscious consumer” describe them well and are more likely to buy from companies that manufacture energy efficient products (90%), promote health and safety benefits (88%), support fair labor and trade practices (87%) and commit to environmentally friendly practices (87%), if products are of equal quality and price.
That's right, green business isn't just for Kermit (or Moonbeam) anymore. Your customers care about it. So do your employees. So does the government, judging by the actions of Governor Schwarzenegger and many others, across the political spectrum. Change is coming. Are you ready for it? Ready to take advantage of it? Even if it doesn't seem apparent to you, scratch the surface just a little bit, and you'll find a range of concerns, hopes, desires there, that even a year ago, were not common.
What is sustainability?
There are many definitions of what it means to be a sustainable, green business, and really, none of them are the definitive, final answer for all. For you.
But from my perspective, being a green business merely means you are making intelligent use of your resources, which includes doing things in a way that uses less energy, consumes less resources, and ultimately both saves and makes you more money. Without sacrificing the well being of your staff, your planet, or your bottom line. It encompasses a broader, more long term view, but at the same time incorporates plenty of "right now" returns on investment. What are they? That varies from industry to industry, and even company to company. To be honest, it can be overwhelming for the average business person.
But I am no average business person.
I bring with me a deep and far ranging knowledge of sustainable business, having been a part of the innovative, game changing MBA in Sustainable Management from Presidio. It is one of the first programs of its kind, elements of which are finding their way into long established programs at Stanford, Berkeley, and Harvard. Nowhere else can you get such an immersive experience, that is at the same time grounded in how business has been done as well. So the result is that I am a perfect bridge between where you are now, to where you want to be. To learn more about my green consulting approach, go here. To find out what I can offer, go here.
