Who is GreenSmith Consulting?
My name is Paul Smith.
My background is diverse, but in terms of green consulting, what's most relevant is the intensive program at Presidio from which I got an MBA in Sustainable Management, a.k.a. Green Business. Far beyond merely studying about it, this project oriented learning program immersed me in real world engagements with actual companies, creating strategic, operations, marketing, and business plans, all the while soaking up a range of emerging ideas and pathways to create success for a variety of companies.
I was taught by the top minds in the field, including Hunter Lovins, co-author with Paul Hawken and Amory Lovins of Natural Capitalism. It was here that I further deepened my knowledge of and ability to cross pollinate skills/knowledge drawn from my previous experience, as an entrepreneur, a green business developer, an association founder, and a wellness practitioner.
Along with being a green consultant, I am a regular contributor to Triple Pundit and Ecopreneurist, two green business focused blogs. This aids me in both having a strong communication muscle, and being aware of the current and upcoming developments in the business sector and all the realms it touches.
The common theme in all my work is interacting with people from across the spectrum, gaining familiarity about and connection points with them, so that I can relate to and understand what makes people tick, what motivates them, and how best to leverage what they provide or want.
My talents are many, but in terms of green consulting, the overarching one is effectively “bottom lining” complex ideas, in a way that is understandable and accessible to a variety of audiences, internal and external to a company. After all, if you have the greatest idea/product/service ever, and your employees or customers don't see the relevance to them, it doesn't really matter, does it?
I am constantly updating my knowledge and network of alliances, all with an eye for applicability for my clients. As each business is unique, even within the same industry, I give personal attention to each client, customizing the engagement and results to the company at hand.
